Cromer

Visit the sandy beach, take in a show at the Pier Pavilion Theatre which has the only full season end of pier show in the world.

Discover the Victorian fisherman’s cottage which houses exhibits about Cromer’s history at the towns Museum. On the promenade the Henry Blogg Museum celebrates the most decorated lifeboatman in RNLI history, who served for 53 years on Cromer’s lifeboats. With the assistance of his crew, he saved over 873 lives from the North Sea. Amazona Zoo is very popular.

Cromer also has many restaurants, pubs and even its own cinema.

Sheringham and beyond

From Sheringham, you can take a steam train at the North Norfolk Railway to Weybourne and then onto the Georgian market town of Holt with its individual shops and cafes.

There are many stops along the coast where you can walk around the narrow streets of quaint villages like Cley where the Norfolk Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve  is one of the best for bird watching in the UK, or Blakeney there you can take a boat out to the seals or watch the different species of birds on the Nature Reserve at Blakeney Point or simply sit along the Quay with an ice cream.

History

If it’s history you like there are National Trust homes,  private estates and gardens like Felbrigg Hall, Blickling Hall, Holkham Hall, the Queens Estate at Sandringham.

Thursford Steam Engine Museum has the largest collection of steam engines and organs, you can ride the carousel or gondola or listen to the organist play the mighty Wurlitzer.

The City of Norwich: (travel by car or train) visit the medieval Norman castle or the beautiful Norwich Cathedral which has the second tallest spire in England. The City has two great shopping centres and a 200 outdoor stall market founded by the Normans.

Transport

Walking: Walk along the beach (or clifftops) to visit the explore the coastline.

Alternatively, there are excellent inland walks available in every direction, through glorious countryside.

Buses: Cromer and Sheringham have regular buses going in every direction (e.g. to Norwich, Aylsham, North Walsham and Holt).

The Coasthopper bus service allows you to travel along the entire north Norfolk coastline. The majority of local bus services are operated by Sanders.

Trains: The Bittern Line runs regularly between Sheringham and Norwich, stopping at Cromer. The route passes through beautiful countryside, including the Norfolk Broads where you can stop off at Wroxham to explore further (or hire a boat!).

Taxis: Cromer and Sheringham have several taxi firms. A taxi rank is located by the sea-side of the church in Cromer and near the clock tower in Sheringham. Best to book in advance, if possible.
